Ladies’ Night in Freemasonry

Ladies’ Night in Freemasonry

By tradition, Freemasonry has always been an organization dominated by men. In fact, it was not until the 18th century that women were considered to be somewhat part of the organization to some degree, although this was something that was considered to be completely outside the original rites. The lodges that practiced this eventually became women-only lodges in the 20th century, which showed how women started to become having a more important role in the organization.

Today, this respect and appreciation for ladies does not mean that they have to become Freemasons themselves. For lodges all over the world, Freemasonry brothers celebrate with their wives, friends, and partners through annual Ladies’ Nights. These often involve dinner and dancing, and some brothers go all out by presenting ladies masonic gifts.

These ladies’ gifts often come in a wide range of varieties, with pendants and earrings bearing different designs, most of them the symbols that the organization is known for. There are also purse holders and scarves for those who would like to give out ladies’ gifts other than jewellery, as well as napkin holders, ladies’ gloves, and key chains. This assortment of gifts allow Freemasons to show the women in their lives how important they truly are, and how relevant their support is in shaping the Freemasons to who they are today.

As for the other lodges, they have also started exploring other options in honouring the ladies. Some opt not only for a night out, but for entire weekends that allow them to relax and enjoy with Freemason friends. Of course, this setting is not always ideal in every lodge. The good thing is, the brothers of Freemasonry continue to explore different creative ideas, proving that they really value the presence of these women in their lives, and are willing to show this through more than just little gifts.
